The Department for Transport has divulged new proposals which would lengthen the period before the first MOT test is required from three to four years.
The extended exemptions could come into effect as early as next year, subject to a consultation launched by the The Department of Transport and DVSA.
The government’s favoured choice is to either increase the stage all vehicles get their first MOT from three to four years or to increase the stage cars and motorcycles get their first MOT from three to four years, nonetheless keeping it at three years for vans in classes four and seven.
