Research by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, more than 500,000 black cars were sold in 2017. (20.3% of new black car sales)
In 2016, the most popular car colour was white cars, but this colour has gone down to third place with 19% of sales, with grey in second.
The fastest growing colour of 2017 was gold, with demand up by 19.1%, although it still is a niche colour choice with just 0.2% of the market.
2017 was a decline year for car sales, after sales of new cars dipped for the first time in six years!
The consensus amongst car expects and garage technicians is that buyers like to go for a simple colour as they have better resale value.
The research also discloses variances between regions, with black being most popular in choice in southern England, but white still the most popular in northern England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
