Ninety school children attended a field trip hosted by AutoCare member, Empire Garage in Enfield, the first of its kind for the school and the garage.
The Head teacher of Ark John Keats Academy in Enfield approached local businesses to organise field trips for the school children to help them develop a better understanding of their local community. Ajay from Empire Garage, was keen to show the local children what his business brings to the area.
The garage closed for two hours every day for five days so that all ninety reception students could attend the garage and take part in what they had planned.
“We were aware that inviting school children would be of no commercial benefit to the garage, but that wasn’t why we were doing it. Our local community is very important to us and as a local business we have to give a bit back to other businesses and organisations in the area. We focused on safety and tailored it in a way the children could easily understand” said Ajay, owner of Empire Garage.
“The children were shown the operation and meaning of the lights, in particular the reverse lights so they could recognise the importance of not standing behind a car that is reversing. We used bubbles to symbolise exhaust fumes and explained the dangers of breathing in the fumes. We also showed the children how we extract fumes from the garages to keep the technicians safe, something which they thought was great.”
Overall the field trips were a brilliant exercise, we were amazed at how smart and switched on the children were, they enjoyed the experience and also went away with a goody bag and we hope a better awareness of what is out there in the big wide world.”
Empire Garage has forged a strong relationship with the local school and have further events planned in conjunction with the local fire station.
