One in eight of all road casualties are caused by people driving too close to the vehicle in front, new figures from Highways England show.
More than 100 people are killed or seriously hurt every year in car accidents/crashes caused by driving too closely to other vehicles.
Nearly nine out of ten drivers say they have been tailgated. Some said they felt victimised by this action.
The findings were brought to light following a survey of 1,109 motorists, of which one in four had tailgated another driver in the last three months.
Highways England has now launched a campaign to stop drivers on England’s roads from tailgating.
